Where’s this farmers least favorite place to be? Behind a desk.
Mitch has been working on seed orders and that has required some desk time.
Lots of questions and things to decide on!
Time is spent looking at last year’s orders and what seeds we have left. What changes do we want to make and how many seeds are needed for this season.
Then, there are so many seed options! Which varieties of each crop do we want? Some varieties do better in the spring and fall. Some varieties prefer the heat of summer. Learning about the new varieties, deciding what will fit our farm.
New for this season?  We are going to be planting heirloom tomatoes!  We are planning on a variety of colors, but there is a purple one I am super excited about. Look for them to start late July.
He took a break from seeds today to order strawberries.  They come as bare root plants that we will plant in the field spring 2026.  We will start harvesting them in June 2027.
But don’t worry, we planted a whole bunch of strawberries spring 2025 that we will be picking in 2026.  U-Pick strawberries anyone?
Don’t forget the farmers markets are open!  Here are the hours for this week:
  • Kalamazoo Farmers Market: Saturday, 8am – 1pm. **Look for us in our normal spot, outside.
  • Muskegon Farmers Market: Saturday, 8am – 1pm.
  • Crisp Farm Store (5888 120th Ave, Holland) Monday – Friday, 8am – 6pm & Saturday, 8am – 5pm.
