Dreaming of summer crops from behind the desk

Where’s this farmers least favorite place to be? Behind a desk.

Mitch has been working on seed orders and that has required some desk time.

Lots of questions and things to decide on!

Time is spent looking at last year’s orders and what seeds we have left. What changes do we want to make and how many seeds are needed for this season.

Then, there are so many seed options! Which varieties of each crop do we want? Some varieties do better in the spring and fall. Some varieties prefer the heat of summer. Learning about the new varieties, deciding what will fit our farm.

New for this season? We are going to be planting heirloom tomatoes! We are planning on a variety of colors, but there is a purple one I am super excited about. Look for them to start late July.

He took a break from seeds today to order strawberries. They come as bare root plants that we will plant in the field spring 2026. We will start harvesting them in June 2027.

But don’t worry, we planted a whole bunch of strawberries spring 2025 that we will be picking in 2026. U-Pick strawberries anyone?

Kalamazoo Farmers Market: Saturday, 8am – 1pm. **Look for us in our normal spot, outside.
Muskegon Farmers Market: Saturday, 8am – 1pm.
Crisp Farm Store (5888 120th Ave, Holland) Monday – Friday, 8am – 6pm & Saturday, 8am – 5pm.

Winter? We’re Still Growing. Come See Us!

Years ago, Thanksgiving meant the end of the farmers markets. But not any more! The winter farmers markets are officially open, and we’re excited to keep you stocked with fresh, local goodness all season long!

The greenhouses are filled with greens, the cold storage are stocked with root veggies and we are even harvesting in the field yet. Check out this video of them harvesting brussels last week.

Even though the weather is chilly, our market tables will be full of everything you need to brighten up your meals this winter.

Kalamazoo Farmers Market: Saturday’s, 8am – 1pm. **We are not moving this year! Staying right on Bank Street.
Muskegon Farmers Market: Saturday, 8am – 1pm.
Crisp Farm Store: Monday – Friday, 8am – 6pm & Saturday, 8am – 5pm.

What It Is:

Through our subscription box (CSA), you receive a box of locally grown produce — weekly, every other week, or once a month — depending on what works for your household.
Each box is completely customizable: before delivery you’ll receive an email, listing what’s planned for the week, and you can swap out items you don’t want — for example, replacing a bag of carrots with extra apples. You can also add extra items from a selection of farm produce and goods from partnering local businesses.

Flexible & Convenient:

Going out of town? No problem — you can pause (put on hold) your share at any time without being charged.
Payment is handled automatically: your card is kept on file and charged each time you receive a box.
Pick up is available at Bronson! Pick up at the Terrace Café on Thursday’s, 2pm – 6pm.

Subscription Options:

Weekly Share — ideal for those who love fresh produce all the time.
Every-Other-Week Share — good for smaller households or occasional users.
Monthly Share — a lower commitment option, great for trying out the program.

Customization & What’s in the Box:

Each Wednesday night (the week before your scheduled delivery), you’ll receive an email with what’s planned for your box. From that email (or by logging into your account), you can make swaps or add-ons.
You have until Sunday at 10 am to customize.
The base share price is $22.00; if you swap in items above that value, the extra will be charged to your card.
Box contents vary by season and by what you select — there is never a “one-size-fits-all” box.
