Free Veggie Day
Good Morning!
It’s a new season and it’s time to make room for the new potato crop. Our last free veggie day was so much fun and so we are holding another one, giving away red skin potatoes.
Check out all of the details:
When: July 12, 2024. 1pm – 6pm.
Where: Crisp Country Acres Farm Market. 5888 120th Ave, Holland, MI 49424.
What to bring: A bag to put your potatoes into. The potatoes will be located outside of the market. Look for the signs.
We will be taking cash donations for the Holland Gateway Mission if you are able.
**Please note that this is a one-day only event!
So, swing by the farm on July 12 and pick up your free potatoes.
Grab some for you and some to share with a friend. It’s our way of saying “thank you” for being part of our farm family. Together, let’s cultivate a spirit of gratitude and community—one potato at a time!

Add this veggie to your chocolate cake
Can you guess what veggie makes the most delicious chocolate cake?
It’s zucchini!
We made this recipe a few years ago and it has been a favorite ever since. Its moist, delicious and you can’t even tell that there is zucchini in it. 🙂

Just a few of the highlights that we are harvesting now: beans, celery, lettuce, tomatoes, candy sweet onions, summer squash and of course zucchini!

“What is a New Potato?”
We get asked that a lot this time of year.
Let’s talk about it!
New potatoes are dug while the plants are still green. These potatoes are very tender and have a delicious mild flavor.
The early potatoes are harvested by hand to make sure that we don’t miss any of the baby potatoes and so we can be extra careful with the tender skins.
Make sure that you store you your new potatoes in a bag or container in the fridge because of the thin skins.
We enjoy them boiled, roasted, or on the grill. Definitely one of our favorites this time of year.

Don’t miss out on the strawberry season!
It goes by so fast. Now is the time to enjoy some fresh Michigan berries.
Whether you want pre-picked berries or would like to enjoy some time in the field, picking your own, we have you covered.
Here are the details:
- Pick-Your-Own (U-Pick) Strawberries:
- If you enjoy the experience of picking your own strawberries, we invite you to visit our farm. Our strawberry field is bursting with ripe, flavorful berries. There’s nothing quite like the satisfaction of selecting your own fruit straight from the plant!
- U-pick berries are $3.25/lb. You may bring your own containers, or we have quarts available for you.
- Please check in at the market when you arrive, and we will give you directions to the field.
- Farm’s address: 5888 120th Ave, Holland. Hours: Monday – Friday, 8am – 6pm & Saturday, 8am – 5pm. ****Please check our social media pages before coming. Berries are unpredictable and we may have to close the u-pick early.****
- Pre-Picked Strawberries:
- If you’re short on time or prefer not to pick your own, we also offer pre-picked strawberries.

Pick your own strawberries at the farm!
1. The Strawberry Fields Are Waiting for YOU!
As you step onto the strawberry field, the sweet scent of ripe strawberries fills the air. Here’s what you need to know before you head out to the fields:
- Dates and Availability:
- The u-pick field is open Monday – Friday, 8am – 6pm & Saturday, 8am – 5pm. Make sure to check our social media pages for updated hours before coming out.
- The farm’s address is 5888 120th Ave, Holland. Stop in at the market when you arrive, and we will give you directions to the field.
- Bring your family and friends along! Strawberry picking is a wonderful way to create lasting memories together.
- Cost:
- The best way to get the freshest berries is to visit the farm and pick them yourself.
- We charge $3.25/lb.
2. Preparing for Your Adventure
Before you head to the fields, here are some tips to ensure your strawberry-picking experience is fun, adventurous, and memorable:
- Containers:
- We provide containers for picking, but feel free to bring your own lightweight container. Tupperware, metal oven pans, or plastic dishpans work well.
- If you decide to take your own containers, please bring it into the market so we can weigh it before you begin picking.
- Remember not to pile the berries more than 5 inches deep to prevent bruising.
- Comfort and Sun Protection:
- Wear comfortable clothes and appropriate shoes. You’ll be walking on dirt, so choose footwear that can handle it.
- Don’t forget sunscreen, a water bottle, and a sun hat. Our fields can get hot, and shade is limited.
- Other Notes:
- Parents, please keep an eye on your little ones. We’re a working farm, and safety is our priority.
- Pets are not allowed in the field due to food safety concerns.
3. Picking the Perfect Berries
Now, let’s talk strawberry-picking technique:
- Choose Ripe Berries:
- Look for fully red strawberries. They don’t ripen further after picking, so select ones that are ready to eat right away.
- Avoid berries with white, yellow, or greenish tips.
- The Gentle Twist:
- When you find a juicy berry, gently grasp its stem about an inch above the fruit.
- Twist and pull lightly to sever it from the plant. Let the strawberry roll into your palm.
- Continue until your hand is full of these ruby-red gems.
4. Enjoy the Bounty
Once your container is filled with sweetness, it’s time to head home. Here’s how to care for your freshly picked strawberries:
- Handle with Care:
- Farm-fresh berries are delicate. Stacking them too high will crush them.
- Avoid tossing the berries into the containers roughly.
- Eat or Freeze:
- Eat your strawberries right away or freeze them within 24 hours of picking.
- Keep Them Chilled:
- If you have a long drive home, bring a cooler with ice to keep your berries fresh.

Have you all seen that meme that is going around?
It’s Maycember! Busy like December, but no presents. School events, graduation parties, end of the school year fun. It’s definitely a busy month.
It made me laugh. It has been crazy busy at the farm, but with this Maycember the presents will be coming! (All the yummy food!)
Ok, lets take a look a what has been happening at the farm.
Beautiful sunrise last week. It has been so much fun to watch the fields filling up again.
SO MUCH PLANTING! The weather has been cooperative, and we are planting all the crops. There is no frost in the forecast!
Strawberry Update: Lots of blossoms, starting to see the first green berries. We are getting close! We are expecting to get started with them around the first of June.
Planting a garden this year? We have all kinds of plants available at the farm to get your garden started. Tomatoes, peppers, beans, zucchini, pickles, cucumbers, broccoli & so much more!
Potato plants are looking great. We are expecting to see some potato blossom soon! New potatoes will be ready in June.

The wall of tomatoes!
Good Morning!
We wanted to show you the wall of tomatoes in the greenhouse.
Pictures just don’t do justice to how amazing that these tomatoes plants are. Walking down the rows, tomatoes all around you. It’s just so cool!
Now, for the exciting part. We are picking these delicious cherry tomatoes and you can now get them at the markets!

At the markets you will find all kinds of greens, root veggies, green onions & cherry tomatoes.

We have an announcement
Just a quick note because we wanted to tell you some exciting news…
We are adding a playground/picnic area & animal barn at the farm!
We are super excited about this addition. Our goal is for you to be able to pick up your groceries and enjoy some fun at the farm!
Stay tuned for updates as the project goes on. Plus, we will be posting on social media when we need your help naming the animals.
